We’re proud of our fantastic team here at Vital Financial Planning and wanted to give you the opportunity to learn a little bit more about them. Here’s your chance to take 10 minutes to find out more about our own sports star Tomos.
Tomos Northey
Tomos is our Paraplanner, starting his financial services career after finishing his degree in accounting and finance in 2019. Tomos has also completed a master’s degree in Strategic Accounting.
Progression
Tomos wanted to work for a company that could help him progress on his chosen career path, which is a key reason he chose our amazing team. We provide him with exam support to help him become qualified. Our small team also enables him to ask for help from more experienced heads if he is struggling with a particular issue. Tomos also works alongside Lewys, which allows him to learn directly from an experienced Chartered Financial Planner.
Day to day
While every day is a new day for Tomos, there are several responsibilities and tasks that he undertakes regularly. These include:
- Preparing for reviews – To do this Tomos will first get a value for the client’s investments, ensure they’ve completed an attitude to risk questionnaire, before comparing the performance of their investments against the sector average. After the client meeting has taken place with Lewys, Tomos will then produce a report for the client.
- New business cases – When handling a new business case, Tomos creates a file to compare the client’s existing investment against our recommended fund. The process includes provider research, cashflow modelling, creating provider illustrations and fund comparisons. Once this is complete a copy is sent out to the client for approval before the application process begins.
- Liaising with clients – This includes answering the phone, interacting with clients when they visit the office (when restrictions allow us to again), emails and much more.
- Sending letters of authority for client pensions and investments.
The Vital Financial Planning environment
Tomos has played an integral part in building the atmosphere at Vital Financial Planning. Between Lewys, Tomos and Charlotte, we’re proud to have created a relaxed and fun environment, which we feel benefits the clients just as much as our fantastic team. Tomos also appreciates the flexible working hours, allowing him to adjust his hours to suit his schedule.
Despite starting his role here during the middle of the Covid pandemic, Tomos has been able to bond well with our team. Thanks to software such as Teams and Zoom, we’ve been able to have as close face-to-face contact as possible, creating friendships just as much as work partnerships.
Downtime
Tomos is Vital’s sporting star, playing semi-professional rugby for Swansea RFC, having played since a young age. As well as playing rugby, Tomos regularly plays golf – however, by his admission he’s got a way to go before he’s on the Masters tour!
If he’s not playing sports, you can find Tomos watching Formula 1 or football, supporting Ferrari, Chelsea, Swansea City and, of course, Wales.
