Every member of our team has a story to tell, and Nick’s is one shaped by nearly two decades of experience in financial services.
Having worked across a range of well-known firms, Nick, our new paraplanner, has developed a broad perspective on the sector, alongside a strong technical foundation. Today, he plays a key role here at Vital Financial Planning in supporting both colleagues and clients, ensuring that every detail is carefully considered.
We caught up with Nick to learn a little more about his journey in financial services, his day-to-day responsibilities, and what keeps him busy outside of work.
Hi Nick! To start, please tell us about your experience in financial services.
Absolutely – I’ve worked in financial services for about 19 years. I started at AXA Sunlife, where I began studying towards my Diploma in Financial Planning. Since then, I’ve gained experience working for several large asset managers, including Tilney, Close Brothers, and Brewin Dolphin, before finally landing here at Vital.
Tell us about your role at Vital and what you do day to day.
I conduct research, help Lewys and Charlotte prepare for client meetings, create suitability reports, and support our clients with their day-to-day needs. As you can imagine, this involves plenty of regular communication with clients via phone and email.
Give us a little bit more information on your background.
I’m originally from Bristol, but in recent years, I’ve lived in Salisbury and Liverpool. I’ve now settled in South Gloucestershire with my wife, son, and our West Highland Terrier, Bruce.
What about life outside work? What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Outside of work, I enjoy walking with Bruce, reading about history, and supporting Bristol City, but my real passion is golf.

Now for some quick-fire questions…
- On an ideal weekend, you can find me… on the golf course or walking around a castle with my family.
- My favourite holiday destination is… Scotland, especially St. Andrews.
- My favourite song to play in the car is… ‘Mr Brightside’ by The Killers.
- The first album I bought was… Now That’s What I Call Music! 29.
- If I could be any fictional character, I would be… Indiana Jones.
- If I could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, I would win a medal in… building dinosaur garages using magnetic tiles with my son.
- When the dessert menu arrives, I’m looking for… sticky toffee pudding.
- The three qualities that draw me to new people are… interest in sports, engaging conversation, and ownership of a westie!
- My pet peeve is… people taking phone calls on loudspeaker in public.
- The best gift I’ve ever received is… a trip to Paris for my 30th birthday from my girlfriend (now wife).
- The three people at my dream dinner party would be… Ben Hogan, Elizabeth I, and Alfred the Great.
- The three small things that make my day better are… coffee, a sunny morning, and new socks.
- Three things I haven’t done so far include… watched a cricket test match live, travelled south of the equator, and skydived.
Thanks, Nick!
